Counterdefender: a little-known but very effective device

What is counterdefender?

Today we are talking about a little-known device in the security industry, the COUNTERDEFENDER. Let’s start with the fact that the counter-defender is a device that protects the European cylinder from being pushed inward, but in addition to this function it plays another very important role, not to be underestimated when you have a door with a European cylinder lock, in fact thanks to its compliance it protects the defender from being torn and pulled out. And yes because as we all know the pins of the defender pass through metal sleeves that sometimes when pulling the defender they pull out together with the pins. And because of its plate base this makes the fastening compartment a single, very strong block. There are three versions of the counterdefender, recessed, for exposed tang and adjustable to thread.

As we said before there are three versions, now let’s talk about the recessed one and the visible one for cylinders with knob or tang. Let’s start with the recessed one, the recessed counterdefender comes from an idea of ours, which is to lower the traditional counterdefender so that it is recessed inside the door so that if you have a cylinder with a tang or knob this you can recess it into the panel making the cylinder and defender compartment more stable, leaving a flawless exterior finish.

The same function does the fixed exposed counterdefender for cylinders with a knob or tang, with the difference that to bring it into view then to the same panel for a good finish it must perforce be shimmed, this factor although it might seem a small detail in reality would involve the use of longer pins, which in pulling might allow bending and twisting that do not do well you have pins in forcing. This version is also sometimes used for cylinders that have a key inside, although not recommended. And yes because an adjustable, threaded product is born for cylinders with an internal key.

This visible adjustable version was born with a very specific purpose, that of being able to hold the counterdefender firmly to the lock, therefore hardly shimming, using shorter fixing pins so as not to allow bending of the whole protection compartment. The function of this product is really simple, in fact it will be enough to fix its base directly by leaning it against the lock, once everything is fixed it will be enough to screw on the steel anti-thrust cover and adjust it with its thread to the exact size of the cylinder. After adjusting everything with the two supplied pins you have to lock the ferrule so as not to allow rotational movements, after all these arrangements you will just have to fit the cover in the color chosen and suitable for your door so as to ensure a flawless aesthetic. This product can be paired with multiple models of plates so that no old marks are left on your door.

The hole on the door must be at least 52 mm, since it has a diameter of 50 mm.
