Do you have an old lock with double bit technology? Protect it now!!!
How do I know what kind of lock my door has?
Together today we will understand how to intercept the type of lock that is on your security door, of technologies on the Italian and European market on armored/armored doors for the majority there are two main ones:
Double map
European profile wrench
Let’s start with the Double Map
Double bit locks were the first locks to be installed on security doors, so much so that they are still installed on 70 percent of the security doors in Italy today. Although this technology was the best in the 1970s-80s, today it has become obsolete and easily manipulated.
The internal mechanics of a double bit lock are made of mechanisms, springs and plates, the latter made with various sizes and tolerances create different combinations of each other, which only by creating keys with correct heights and positions can the lock work.
Over the years and with the advent of decoders created specifically for this type of technology, opening such a lock has really become child’s play. This type of device is self-coding facilitated by the fact that this type of lock has a low number of plates and above all heights.
What things can I do to protect my door if it has this type of lock?
To secure a door equipped with a double bit lock there are only and exclusively two solutions. The first is to install a magnetic shutter defender specifically for double-bitted technologies, and the second is to upgrade the door by installing a new lock with a punched key (called a European Key by everyone).
Installing a magnetic double map defender is the least invasive solution, but nevertheless the most vulnerable, in fact sometimes this defender is fixed on the panel so it is easily detached from the door, however if it is installed properly it can be an almost complete solution to keep the old lock.
The best solution, however, is still to upgrade the door with a new European cylinder technology, clearly one that is of excellent quality and has extremely high security parameters, Obviously this solution is the most invasive because installing a European cylinder lock will mean making changes.
To sum up, the double-bit lock has accompanied us for several decades protecting us from theft and violations of our homes. Today, however, it is time to continue to protect ourselves by not neglecting our doors that help us preserve our privacy and security every day.
